How to move SOLIDWORKS license server to another server - 2022 and older versions

SOLIDWORKS products based on network licenses require a so-called license server to function. The license server refers in practice to a software called SOLIDNetwork License Manager, which is installed either on a server or on a workstation that acts as a server, to which the actual workstations connect via an internal network or VPN. Follow the instructions below to install the license server. The instructions also apply to installing the DraftSight license server."

If you need any more help, feel free to ask!

IMPORTANT!
Before installing, moving, or updating the license server, ensure that the server's operating system is supported by the version of SolidNetwork License Manager being installed:

STEP 1: Install the license server system to a new server

1. Download the installation files via PLM Group Downloads page.

The same installation package contains all SOLIDWORKS products, including the SolidNetwork License Manager, and the SOLIDWORKS programs required for workstations (excluding DraftSight). The SolidNetwork License Manager may be a newer version than the SOLIDWORKS version on the workstations, but never the other way around.

2. Go to the server or the workstation that will act as the server, where the license server, i.e., the SOLIDNetwork License Manager software, is intended to be installed.

3. Start the installation by double-clicking the file Setup.exe. Just for beind sure that you have the required permissions, please use the option Run as administrator.

4. When Installation Manager opens, select the option ”Server Products” and check only the option ”Install SolidNetwork License Manager”.

Press "Next".

5. Enter the network license serial number you received from PLM Group Suomi Oy. If you have the serial number in electronic form, you can also paste it into the field using the 'Copy-Paste' method.

If you have multiple different network license serial numbers, enter them all separated by commas and without spaces into the 'Serial numbers' field:

STEP 2: Deactivate the license from the old server

7. Once the installation of the new server is complete, go to the old license server at this stage and start the SolidNetwork License Manager from there.

8. Check that all borrowed licenses are 'called home.'

If there are any borrowed licenses, return them using the 'Return License' function. If borrowed licenses cannot be returned before the license server transfer, there may be issues with manually returning these licenses after the update. However, the licenses will automatically return to the 'license pool' when the borrowing period expires.

9. Check that SOLIDWORKS licenses are not currently in use.

If there are users currently using SOLIDWORKS at the time of the license server transfer, inform these users about the license server downtime and ask them to save any unsaved SOLIDWORKS file changes.

10. Transfer the license of the SNL Manager program from the old license server by starting SNL Manager, selecting the "Server administration" tab, clicking the "Modify" button, and choosing the option "Move your product license(s) to a new/upgraded computer".

Press the Next button, and if there are multiple licenses, select 'Select All' to choose all licenses.

After confirmation, the license activations will be released from the old server.

STEP 3: Activate the license in new server

11. Go back to the new server and start SolidNetwork License Manager from there.

13. Select the option "Automatically over the internet" and enter your email address if it is not already filled in. Finally, press the "Next" button. Wait for the program to complete the license activation. When the activation is successful, a message "Activation/Reactivation Succeeded" will appear.

License server has now been moved successfully.

If the name of the server is not the same as previously, users also need to define the new license server address in their workstations. Users need to launch "SolidNetwork License Manager Client" software and enter the new address in form of "25734@<name of the server>".
