How to upgrade CUSTOMTOOLS to 2022/2023/2024 version

Below is a brief description of the steps for updating CUSTOMTOOLS. This guide is an abbreviation and includes only main features of the program update process. If you are unsure about updating the program, the update task can be also ordered from PLM Group Suomi Oy.

1. Make sure that server to be used as CUSTOMTOOLS server has supported Windows operating system version:

CUSTOMTOOLS 2022 - SUPPORTED OPERATING SYSTEMS

CUSTOMTOOLS 2023 - SUPPORTED OPERATING SYSTEMS

CUSTOMTOOLS 2024 - SUPPORTED OPERATING SYSTEMS

Also make sure that Microsoft SQL Server hosting CUSTOMTOOLS database is on supported version:

CUSTOMTOOLS 2022 - SUPPORTED SQL SERVER VERSIONS

CUSTOMTOOLS 2023 - SUPPORTED SQL SERVER VERSIONS

CUSTOMTOOLS 2024 - SUPPORTED SQL SERVER VERSIONS

Also make sure that you have "sa user's" password for SQL Server.

2. Make a backup of existing CUSTOMTOOLS database by using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio software. Check THIS INSTRUCTION.

3. Log in to CUSTOMTOOLS portal to download the installation package. If you haven't created an account yet, click to create one by selecting link “If you don’t have an account please register here”.

Note. As a precaution, you can always use the “Run as Administrator” option to perform the installation if it is suspected that the user does not have sufficient privileges to perform the installation.

5. When the installer detects an earlier version on the machine, select “Yes” to update CUSTOMTOOLS. If the installer displays a window stating that there are running processes, select the “Automatically close ...” option.

6. As you already have an older version of CUSTOMTOOLS installed, you should already have serial number typed and all products to be installed correctly set up. So you can proceed by pressing "Next" and once again "Next".

7. You should also already have database server defined. If server hosting CUSTOMTOOLS is still the same and nothing has been changed in the server you can just proceed by pressing "Next".

9. After the program is installed and SOLIDWORKS is launched, CUSTOMTOOLS notices that the SQL database version is older than the Client version. Update the SQL database to proceed.

10. When there are multiple workstations to be updated, perform steps 4-8 in this guide for each workstation.
The installation package mentioned in step 3 does not need to be re-downloaded if the installation package is placed, for example to an external hard disk or server to which the workstations to be updated are connected. Also the database upgrade in step 9 needs to be performed only once, in the first workstation.
