In a modern CAD tool like SOLIDWORKS it is relatively easy to construct complex sheet constructions, however it does take an effort to have to have the flat pattern be exact as the real world. 

When a sheet is bended the material streches - how much is depended on a variete of factors; here amongst the material, the thickness and bend radius.
