OLIDWORKS has a powerful assistance feature that allows you to quickly place your dimension. It is called "Rapid Dimension" tool.
If it isn't turned on, you need to drag the dimension to the desired location, which is quite time consuming.
However, when the rapid dimension tool is applied to the system, the dimensions can be quickly set on any side of the model.
