SOLIDWORKS typically releases at least five different Service Pack updates (SP1.0, SP2.0, SP3.0, SP4.0, and SP5.0) for each annual version, with the aim of improving the functionality of the version and fixing existing software bugs. SOLIDWORKS may also release smaller Service Pack versions, which are essentially interim updates between the main Service Pack releases (SP0.1, SP5.1, etc.).
Performing a Service Pack update:
1. Download the installation package for the specific Service Pack version. See THIS GUIDE.
2. Double-click the setup.exe file located at the root of the downloaded installation package.
3. The Installation Manager will start. Select the option "Install on this computer" and click "Next".
4. Accept the license agreement and start the update by clicking "Install Now".
5. Wait until the update is complete. The update typically takes 15-60 minutes, depending on the type of hard drive (SSD drives are faster), available disk space, the scanning sensitivity of antivirus software, and many other possible factors.
"
6. When the update is complete, a notification "Installation is Complete" will appear. Click "Finish".
7. It is also good practice to restart your computer after the update, but you can also choose to restart it later, for example during your lunch or coffee break.
