From time to time you might experience SOLIDWORKS issues (performance issues for example) that cannot be traced by observing data collected by SOLIDWORKS RX tool. In those situations PLM Group support agent might suggest you to use a specific Microsoft's tool called "Process Monitor". Data collected by that tool is more detailed and can be used to trace the root cause for the issue.
Note: Process Monitor tool requires Windows login with local administrator account.
Follow these actions when PLM Group support agent asks you to send the Process Monitor log file.
1. Go to a workstation suffering from the issue. Download Process Monitor from THIS LINK. Select the link "Download Process Monitor" ja save the zip file. Then extract the zip file.
2. Double-click the file Procmon.exe inside the "ProcessMonitor" folder. Process Monitor tool starts.
3. DISABLE the File menu option "Capture Events" to prevent capturing of unnecessary log events.
4. Clear the log from current/unnecessary events by selecting the option "Clear Display" from Edit menu. Now you have a "clean table" to capture new log events.
5. When you are ready to demonstrate the issue, ENABLE the option "Capture Events" and demonstrate the issue. Try to show only the relevant part of the issue. If possible, try to capture only a time frame of few seconds. Otherwise a log file will become too big, containing a lot of unnecessary events, making the reading of log file really challenging.
6. And once again, DISABLE the option "Capture Events" after you have demonstrated the issue.
7. Save the log events in *.PML file format by selecting "Save" from File menu and pressing "OK". Do not change any selections in "Save To File" dialog.
8. Saved *.PML file has typically really large file size (tens or hundreds of megabytes). Compress the saved *.PML file in *.zip format. Compressed *.zip file gets much smaller file size and can then be sent as an email attachment.
9. Send the compressed *.zip file to PLM Group support when asked.
