Tree Display allows you to define how Component Name and Description is displayed in the Tree.
With the following set-up I would see Component Name and it would be followed by the Component description (it reads the 'Description' value from Properties).
In my example, I have the following descriptions for my files, but I would like to see old LegacyNo property values (it can be any other property too).
These files in given assembly contain LegacyNo property which I would like to see in the Assembly tree instead of Description.
This would mean that SOLIDWORKS property.txt file has to have 'LegacyNo' property listed. To add additional properties to mentioned file you need to locate it firstly. Most commonly it is in the following path: C:\ProgramData\SOLIDWORKS\SOLIDWORKS 2023\lang\english
If you don't see the properties.txt file in previous location, you can see the location from SOLIDWORKS document templates aswell:
Navigate to described path and open properties.txt file in Notepad and add new property into this list (in this example 'LegacyNo'):
Save and close the file.
Now you need to change the Property which is used as component description.
In the SOLIDWORKS System Options->General node you will see a dropdown next to 'Custom property used as component description:' By clicking on the dropdown list you will find the variable that you manually added to the properties.txt file. Select it and click OK.
Instead of 'Description' you are now presented with the new property in the Assembly Tree:
