DraftSight Enterprise Installation

When installing a new version of DraftSight on a computer where a previous version exists, you have two options:

  1. Update the existing version.
  2. Perform a new “Clean” installation by first uninstalling previous versions.

 

Always review the following before starting the installation:

 

Disable antivirus program

Disable the Antivirus program – check with IT department or the Antivirus programs support / website.

 

Deactivate UAC – User Account Control

SOLIDWORKS will not be installed correctly with UAC running. It needs to be deactivated.

 

Go to Windows Start and write “UAC” in the search window, then click on Change User Account Control settings.

Move the slider down to Never notify and then click OK.

Restart the computer to get the settings to be applied.

Installation of network license


To run DraftSight with network licenses, you must first install a license manager on a shared server.
Then you connect the respective workstations to this license manager.

If you already have SolidNetWork License Manager installed, it is recommended to uninstall this and then install the latest version.

NOTE! All borrowed licenses must be returned to the license pool before uninstalling existing license manager.

 

 

NOTE! Customers who have a special solution, such as extended borrow licensing time, triad server solution or similar, please contact our Customer Care.

 

 

 

Step 1 – Installation on server – SolidNetWork License Manager

 

To be able to install the license manager you first must download the installation files.

Download the latest ‘SOLIDWORKS Installation Manager’ from

Open and Run the Downloaded Setup.exe file.

 

Unzip and press OK

 

 

 

 

 

If you see the message below, either Press OK to continue the installation or Cancel to first restart your computer. If you don’t restart be sure to restart your computer when installation is finished.

 

 

 

 

Installation Options

 

Select the Install server components option and then Install SolidNetWork License Manager (distributed licensing) on this computer.

Then click Next > to continue.

 

Start installation

Optionally, set Installation location and the Download option.
Check I accept the terms of the SOLIDWORKS License Agreement.

Click Install Now to start the installation.



 

Installation completed

We recommend checking the box for entering the Customer Experience Improvement Program.
After that click Finish >I to complete the installation.

 

Serial number and Activation

Run SolidNetWork License Manager Server 2023 from the Windows start menu.

 

You might get a warning – just press No.

 

 

To add, remove or activate DraftSight network serial number, click on Modify…

 

 

On the next page, note Computer Name and Port Number – this information is needed for the client installations.

 

Click Next>

Click Add to add more serial number.

To remove serial number, select the number/line and click Remove.

 

When adding new serial numbers, enter one SOLIDWORKS/DraftSight network license serial number per line.
The serial number consists of 24 digits or letters. Example: XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX YYYY YYYY

Activation can be done either automatically over the Internet (recommended) or via e-mail if you do not have an Internet connection.

 

Select the license/licenses you want to activate or use Select All to activate all products, enter your email address and then click Next > to continue.

In the picture above the 2 last serial numbers is selected.

Activation Completed

Activation is now complete, and in the list, you can see the products you have access to.
Version 31.0 means in plain language version 2023 of SOLIDWORKS.

Not the Reactivation Date, at that date the license needs to be reactivated.

They will normally correspond with the subscription need to be renewed.

Click Finish to complete.

Now the License Manager service starts, and you are ready to begin installing the clients.

 

Switching servers

If you are going to change the server, you must first disable the license manager on the old server, and then enable the license manager on the new server.

To do this, start SolidNetWork License Manager Server 2023 and click Modify on the Server Administration tab.

Then you select Move your product license(s) to a new/upgraded computer, and click Next > to

proceed.

 

 

Select which serial number(s) you want to activate (or use Select All to select all of them), enter your e-mail address and click Next >.
The option Manually via e-mail is only used in rare cases when you do not have an Internet connection.

Deactivation complete. Click Finish.

 

Reactivating Server

 

If you ever change your license holdings for a network license, such as purchasing an additional license of SOLIDWORKS or any other product, the license manager must be re-activated to make this new license available on the clients.

 

Also, when you update to a new version of SOLIDWORKS, the license manager needs to be
re-activated to make the new version available on the clients.

 

To do this, start SolidNetWork License Manager Server 2023 and click Reactivate on the Server Administration tab.

 

 

Select the Serial number there needs to be reactivated under Serial Number:  And click Reactivate – and follow the description on the screen

 

Installation of clients

Downloading installation package

You can download the entire installation package from the DraftSight website. https://www.draftsight.com/

The package includes the latest service pack. This means that you do not need to install any additional software, and you can also use the files on other computers.

 

When downloading the entire installation package, you need to download a data volume of approximately 750 MB.

 

Go to www.draftsight.com and under Support select Download

Click on Windows for the Windows version of DraftSight

Read through the terms and conditions, and choose Accept and Download

 

 

 

 

Installation from downloaded package

The DraftSight64.exe file is now downloading and when the download is complete, you need to run the file. The procedure may look a bit different depending on which browser is being used.
Select the command that corresponds to Open/Run in your browser.

The installation process starts


If you get a notification from ‘User Account Control’.
Please read the section about Deactivate UAC - User Account Control.

 

 

Enter your serial number for DraftSight. You should have received the serial number in a confirmation email of your order, which you have received from us. It consists of 24 digits or letters.
A serial number starting with 9000 is for a Standalone DraftSight, while Serial numbers starting with 9010 is Network license. Network licenses requires a SolidNetwork License Manager with at least one DraftSight license activated.
(You can type or Copy/Paste the serial number with spaces or just all numbers together).

Then click Next>

 

Enter port- and servername and click Next>.

 

Accept license agreement and click Install

 

Click Next>

 

Wait while the insallation is proceding.

 

Press Finish and wait for DraftSight to automatically start.

 

If DraftSight was previously installed, you are asked to migrate your current DraftSight settings.

 

Restart the computer to ensure that the installation completes all necessary steps before you start using DraftSight. Do not forget to restart your antivirus services.
