When upgrading CUSTOMTOOLS to newer major version it is important to verify that Windows Server operating system version and SQL Server version in the server that hosts CUSTOMTOOLS database service is supported in that new CUSTOMTOOLS major version.
Important! Do not upgrade CUSTOMTOOLS unless you are sure how upgrading process goes. Upgrading is usually done by PLM Group as a separate project outside normal technical support.
Here are the steps to check the Windows Server and SQL Server version?
1.. Login to server that hosts CUSTOMTOOLS database service. Please note that typically only specific people have access to that server. You can also login to server by using Windows Remote Desktop connection if that connection method is allowed.
2.. Please open Windows Command Prompt window by typing the command cmd in Windows search field and pressing Command Prompt.
3.. Type in the command SQLCMD -S localhost\instancename and press Enter button.
Replace the instancename with the actual database service instance name. Name is typically customtools but you can verify the name by launching Windows Services window and observing which name is displayed in brackets under SQL Server service.
4.. Type in the command select@@version and, once again, press Enter button.
5.. Type go and press Enter button.
6. Take a screenshot or copy-paste the version information listed in the window and send the information to PLM Group person who is requesting that information.
