This article guides you through the process of downloading the necessary files for installing PDM client with HostPLM and creating a local vault for HostPLM vault.
You need to have the same year version of the PDM client as your HostPLM server version. You can see the version, on the same view where you can download your customer-specific CVS file for creating a local vault. This is guided below this page.
Downloading and installing PDM Client:
To install PDM client on your local PC you’ll first need to download a SOLIDWORKS Installation Manager from our Downloads page
Download the SOLIDWORKS version you need to use. Verify that the zip package is not blocked, then unzip the package, and run Setup.exe to begin your installation.
Select “Install on this computer” and click “Next”:
On the following screen add your SOLIDWORKS license and click next, f you are only installing the PDM client you do not need to add a license:
Under product selection select PDM client and click next:
On the Summary window before installation press “Change” beside SOLIDWORKS PDM Options. You will be led to the SOLIDWORKS PDM Client Options window. Select the correct license version, and select the PDM client type based of which kind of license you should use CAD Editor/Viewer, and Add-ins you want to have:
Click “Back to summary” in the bottom right corner when you’ve completed your selections and you will be taken back to “Summary” window. Tick the box to accept the terms, and then click “Install Now” in the bottom right corner.
A window will pop up to fill in the server address for your License Manager, this is only for SOLIDWORKS license, if you install SOLIDWORKS on the same time. Fill in the server address for SOLIDWORKS License Server and click “OK”.
Creating a vault view:
To create a vault view with hostPLM you will need to go to www.hostplm.com scroll down on the page and add your customer-specific Authorization code here.

After typing and submit your authorization code, you will see your current PDM version and options for connection HostPLM vault:
Download the proper configuration file (CVS file) for creating local vault and HostPLM server connection:
FlexConnect = Cloud server connection
Works with an internet connection. If you are working sometimes out of the office eg. remotely from home, select this option.
ProConnect: HOSTPLMBOX**
Works only inside your local office, if working remotely eg. from home, need to have VPN connection on to the office local network.
If you can see multiple HOSTPLMBOX options, you need to select the box that your local office is using.
Once the download is complete you must open the file with ViewSetup.exe program. Right-click the downloaded file and select “Open with…” and select SOLIDWORKS PDM File Vault View Setup.
If you do not see View Setup you can select “More apps” and then “Look for another app on this PC:
The default location for ViewSetup.exe is C:\Program Files\SOLIDWORKS Corp\SOLIDWORKS PDM\ViewSetup.exe. If your installation is not located in the default location, then replace the text accordingly.
Allow the software to do the changes, and then you will get this message the local vault is ready. Click Finnish.
Then login into your HostPLM vault which you can find from C:\HostPLM
