IT - How to try fixing .dll issues related to windows

If you ever been in the Event viewer on your computer to see what can be the cause to some issues. You most likely have seen issues that says that Kernelbase.dll, ntdll.dll or any other windows related dll-files. Although the those mentioned might be the most common ones that you will see. One common issue that is windows related but isn't a dll-file is the windows explorer itself. If that keeps crashing or the bar at the bottom of your screen disappear and reappear it is most likely the explorer has some kind of issue.

It is not that much of a problem if it appears now and then but if the same error appears multiple times a day then it might be best to try to fix them. In this guide you will see how to run a command that can fix these issue but unfortunately it is not certain that it will.

You need to be admin on your computer or at least be able to run one certain program as admin. That program is Command Prompt.

  1. Search in Windows search field on "Command Prompt" and click on "Run as administrator"
  1. Type in SFC /Scannow and press enter
  2. Now it will run a scan of the computer and try to fix things.
  3. When it is done it can give you three different answers.

    1. It couldn't find anything
    2. It found some corrupt files and successfully repaired them
    3. It found some corrupt files and repaired some of them

Now you can hopefully work again but it is good to keep an eye out for the same type of issue. It could be that it repaired files but not completely. In those cases maybe your own IT have some kind of software that could do some more in depth repair that could fix those issues. If you have a Windows image on a USB you can try to run a repair on Windows. But otherwise it could be that the best option is to reinstall Windows.
