IT - HOW TO TEST YOUR CLIENT’S COMMUNICATION TO YOUR CAD SERVERS

First download the PSPING.EXE, which is included in the PsTools package available from Microsoft. Links below:

https://download.sysinternals.com/files/PSTools.zip

PSPING is a program used to check the communication for a given server name and a specific port number.

PSPING SERVERNAME:PORT

Ex.
PSPING CADSRV01:25734

In the sample below PSPING.EXE is placed in C:\Temp, and the communication to my Cad Server för PDM Professional is verified.

In this case I used the IP-address, but you can use the Server Name, and if you are connecting via VPN it is common that a Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) is required.

CADSRV01 and type as FQDN CADSRV01.plmgroup.local common

Below are the default ports for commonly used CAD services which need to be open and allowed in the Firewalls:

  • SOLIDWORKS License Server (SNL) – 25734 & 25735 TCP
  • SOLIDWORKS PDM Archive Server – 3030 TCP
  • Microsoft SQL Server – 1433 & 1434 TCP & UDP
  • 3DEXPERIENCE  – 8080 and 20250
  • CATIA – 443

If you need a guide on how to open these ports in Windows, here is an article on that.

PSPING is not blocked, which is very common to be the case for the TELNET and PING command in Windows.
