Working offline with 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS

SOLIDWORKS Connected version (3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS) generally needs an internet connection for two main reasons:

1. Licences are tied to your 3DEXPERIENCE Cloud

2. 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS Saves copies and PLM Data to your Cloud Platform

But this does not mean that it's impossible to work offline with this version of SOLIDWORKS, let's take a look how this can be done.

Note that you can undo the offline mode anytime you want if you have an internet connection, so moving to offline mode does NOT mean you are locked offline for a certain period of time!

  1. Reserving and Downloading all files we want to work while offline

All files that you have opened on 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS are downloaded locally to your computer, so simply just open all files you need to work on offline from 3DEXPERIENCE.

Note that if you have been working on an assembly where multiple people work at same time, someone else might have made changes to the assembly, while you were working on it. Before going offline, make sure that all changes are synced with the cloud. If someone else has modified these files on the Cloud you should also try to reload the latest version of the files from the Cloud before moving offline:

Since you don't want anyone else modifying these files while you are working offline, remember to lock the files to yourself also before moving offline (Only lock files YOU are going to modify):

  2. Working offline

Now that we have all necessary files downloaded locally and have disabled editing them by others, we are ready to move to offline mode. Moving to offline mode is simple, just find your initials on top right corner of SOLIDWORKS Connected and Select the "Work Offline" button:

This will give you a pop-up window, where you need to define how long you want to work offline:

Set the amount of days you want to work offline and press "OK"-button to confirm this action, you should get the following icon on top right corner of SOLIDWORKS, displaying that you are working offline:

  3. Returning to work online

NOTE! You will need an internet connection to return working online!

You will automatically return to online working status after the days you set your offline period to have past, you can also return to work online clicking on the offline working icon on top right corner of SOLIDWORKS:

After returning online, rememeber to save all changes to the platform so others in your team can see them!
